Crossing Paths

On Wednesday Seuao went in to have his ACL reconstructed. The surgery couldn't have gone better. The doctors and nursing staff were great. Now the fun part - recovery! So far he is doing well - just in quite a bit of pain (to be expected), and is getting pretty bored. He starts physical therapy tomorrow, and we'll have a better idea then when he'll be up and around again!

While I was waiting for Seuao's surgery, I started talking to a gal who had brought her 2 1/2 year old in for tubes in his ears. I'm not one to strike up conversations with strangers. I'm just not a real talker.

I don't know what it was, but I had the neatest conversation with this gal. Her husband was in Iraq, and would be coming home the next day. We talked about so many different things - kids, husbands, cultures, religion, politics, parents, in-laws, siblings, jobs, crafties, recipes, books, on and on and on... It wasn't really surface chit-chat either. It was so strange to me to find so much common ground and a bond with a complete stranger.

When the nurse came to tell her that her little boy was awake again, she came over and gave me a hug. She had tears in her eyes (which was foreign to me - I am usually the one that's crying!), and thanked me. I never learned her name, but I couldn't help but think about how paths cross in life.

Some paths we just intersect and keep on going our separate ways (like that day). Other paths we join up with and travel along with for a while, and slowly drift apart. Some paths we criss and cross and circle around, and try to decipher, but the nature of it is just that - undefinable. Yet other paths reconnect after years and years apart.

When Seuao woke up and later that day (still "under the influence") was telling me how much he loved me and appreciated my taking care of him, etc. I was grateful for my path. Grateful for those travelling with me and those whose paths I have crossed.

I'm proud of you. I love those moments that make you think about where you are in life, and why you meet certain people. I'm glad our lives are so intertwined!

I have had a few experiences like that. They really are serendipitous in a way, meeting the needs of one or both people. Your blog made me think about the people who's life paths have crossed mine. I am so grateful you are in my path forever, like it or not!

What a cool experience. Those ones are always the best to remind us of how much every choice, and just everything we do has a purpose and someone is always watching or being effective.
